Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.
When Elder Harcourt summons Lily and her protector Antonio back to the United States, Lily thinks nothing unusual about the change of location. But a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zeller’s private quarters, and at his mercy. Surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor but plenty of resentment.
They are not allowed to nurse their wounds. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. It should be easy. The war is turning, the battle is deadly, and both Lily and Ezra love the cold cleanliness of combat. But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they can’t control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.
So uber sexy vampire Ezra falls in love with a shifter, Lily, but she is so much more than she seems because Lily is a hybrid; yes she is part shifter and part vampire! It's against every law for them to be together and they've tried to keep it a secret but these things have a way of getting out and this pair of lovers just got “burned” badly. To protect the paranormal world and indeed the young lovers the powerful Elders altered their memories and now they have no recollection of the deep commitment they shared but nothing is ever straight forward. First there's the growing problem of the war brewing with the mortals or Coms as the Supernaturals refer to them. Oh and there's also the little thing known as a "baby"! Yes Lily has had a baby but with her memories scrubbed she has no idea who the father is!
Now you can see why I'm jumping up and down as this series has been amazing, the characters are simply fabulous and I want an Ezra of my own! As for Lily, well she is such a strong heroine and I know that many are referred to as kick ass or feisty but this girl has gone through so much and is still standing .She understands the pain of loss and yet battles through. She and indeed Ezra are both exceedingly loyal but theirs is not an easy life. Is Lily meant to be with Ezra or is there a new man meant to be in her life? With so much happening as the war hots up, it's a wonder these characters get time to breathe let alone play but there's always time for some release amongst these passionate characters and it's a world that is open to explorations with very little being taboo.
I don't wish to spoil the outcome for other readers, but will simply say this was a satisfying conclusion. It's dominated to a large extent by the war that's threatening their way of life and there are two characters that I missed if I'm honest but the world building is simply jaw dropping, it's that good. I love that Ms Dawn pulls me in and I'm happy to drown in this world she has created. If you can imagine it, then this author can do it bigger, brighter and yes, in glorious Technicolor! I have a sneaky suspicion we have not seen the last of these characters and even though it's a trilogy I notice it's described as the "first trilogy” so I am hopeful for more.
If you love action and romance then do not hesitate to get this series and simply wallow in the spell binding story this talented author shares.
