There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I am coming for you...
My whole existence is based on taking what Death wants. Born to eliminate Fae guilty of unforgivable crimes, my reckless, wild nature makes me the perfect assassin to carry out Death's bidding. I've seen more sinister and violent dealings than anyone could ever imagine. But it was the sight of her face that stopped me cold. I've never wanted a woman-never mind a human-so badly; never felt my heart, hardened by death, burn brighter and hotter until it burst into flames. She is everything I desire. The kind of woman that compels you to stake your claim on her, to let the world know that she's yours. A Reaper saving her life will only attract danger, but I vow to protect her at all costs from the Fae that hunt her, and keep safe the woman who has claimed me, body and soul.
Into this world is thrust Jordyn, a human woman with no idea she possesses Fae blood. She's always been obsessed by the legends of the fair folk but her life is about to get completely turned around.
Baylon is a Reaper who spots a lovely mortal, being stalked by dark Fae. His intervention has what could be huge repercussions as there's so much chemistry between the couple it just can't be ignored. Reapers are forbidden more than one night with a human as past history has shown attachments can have disastrous consequences. Yet the passion between them is visceral but danger is about to come knocking on Jordyn's door!
Okay, this couple and the phrase "hammer and tongs" comes to mind because they are literally unable to keep their hands off each other right from the start! I did like Jordyn as she understands Baylon cannot remain but refuses to let that fact get between them. In fact, it's her bravery that seemed at times to drive the story. Yes, there's a villain with nefarious plans for the Reapers, but I just didn't connect with Baylon as much as I'd hoped. Nevertheless Ms Grant makes a good start to this new series with interesting characters. It seems to be continuing the plots from the Dragon Kings and the Warriors that I love, so I will happily seek out the next book.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
