Chronicles of the Fallen, Book 2
All whisper his name in fear, for The Seer was the right hand of Lucifer, the Collector of Souls. Condemned by Heaven, a fugitive from Hell, Niklas’s only hope for salvation lies in protecting the innocent from demons bent on ravaging mankind
After uncovering a plot to overthrow Lucifer, Niklas and his compatriots scramble to retrieve crucial Sacred Relics before the plot’s mastermind gets to them. For if Lucifer falls, so too shall fall the barriers between Earth and Hell.
Carly Danner’s life is turned upside down when she stumbles upon a demon summoning, plunging her into a dangerous realm of temptation and forbidden love. Left with no choice, she must trust the most unlikely of protectors, a darkly sensual demon with a fearsome reputation.
As the tangled web of desire and betrayal draws her deeper, Carly walks a blurred line between good and evil. And Niklas must decide if redemption is worth losing the woman who stole his heart.
Contains a demon willing to put the world at risk for the love of one woman, and an innocent human who would sell her soul to save the demon she can’t live without. And so continues the journey of six fallen demons and the women who capture their hearts.
Yes, you read that right. The hero, Niklas, is a Demon! Originally an archangel who fell to earth and performed many depraved acts as Lucifer’s right hand man, but now he along with his fellow brothers in arms seek redemption and travel the world searching for the relics that could bring Lucifer down. If whilst doing that, he can help protect those innocents who get tangled up in the unholy mess the other Demons create, then that's just another plus point.
It was a bad night for Carly when she heard strange noises that led her into a gathering of Demons performing a summoning ritual. One minute walking along and the next, tied to a tree and molested by a truly vile creature. Yet, when an even more terrifying Demon shows up, there's just something about his eyes that well frankly, confuses Carly. Waking up alone with the fearsome beast, Carly starts to realise her life just changed forever and this handsome, but scary male might be the only thing between Carly and Hell! Two people caught up in a war that's about to put their beliefs to the ultimate test.
The Seer was a really good story with its mixture of Demons seeking to atone for past mistakes, whilst allowing them (or Niklas in this case) to find romance. I did find it a little too instant, if honest, but the actions Niklas take enable the story to progress. I didn't doubt the connection between them and thought Ms Huber did a very good job of showing how the couple came to respect and trust each other.
This single minded Demon will do anything to protect Carly and I loved her displays of temper because hey, he's a little high handed at times and it even raised my independent instincts. That being said, the supporting characters were essential to the plot. It was easy for me to imagine them and the author did a great job of teasing her readers with the possibilities to come.
Yes, these fierce males have amazing abilities but it was the compassion and humour between them that really registered with me. Intense, frightening at times, and did I mention totally charming? Yes, there's a lot more to come in this series and even though there's only five “fallen" working together, I predict a certain dangerous "acquirer" might just feature as well!
A really good read for those, like me, who enjoy paranormal romance.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
