Dirk Gunderson is an alpha Arbor pack werewolf. Captured and collared, he's sold to the zombie lab in hopes his blood serum can create a vaccine. He needs to escape, but not without the hot little brunette witch.
In the midst of enemy werewolves and the hordes of undead, Dirk and Dora's sexual tension ignites a blaze hotter than the desert highway. Along their journey, they battle the inevitable: a werewolf must never take a witch as a mate.
Dora is a successful doctor and it's her twenty seventh birthday so life should be sweet right? Wrong, as Dora comes from a family where consistently all the females die on that birthday! Dora has kind of reconciled herself to what seems to be fate and besides with the recent zombie apocalypse no one is completely safe anymore. Whilst assessing a new patient, Dora is bitten and immediately taken to quarantine but she knows there's no cure so can only hope for a quick end. What Dora hadn't expected was that she would be completely and totally immune to the zombie virus and she finds herself imprisoned in a secret laboratory and subjected to horrifying experiments, but her life is about to take an even stranger turn.
Dirk is an alpha werewolf and a bit of a player to be honest and has no real intention of ever taking a mate. Whilst out trying to help protect his pack, he falls foul of hunters (Kindred) and they give him to government scientists to experiment on. Werewolves are naturally immune to the fearsome zombie virus that’s overtaking the human world but in the depths of the compound Dirk discovers that shifters are not the only ones. In the next cell is a young woman with the uncanny ability to communicate telepathically with him and that convinces Dirk that Dora is a rare witch. Obviously Dora is not immediately convinced but if zombies and werewolves are real then why not witches? When security is breached, it's every man for himself but Dirk is not leaving Dora behind and is about to find out just what it means to want a mate of your own.
This was a very fast paced story with lots of humorous dialogue. It’s first and foremost a romance but it's not gratuitous instant lust as Ms Gordon keeps the sexual tension building. Hey this is a zombie book so expect blood, guts, gore and plenty of drama as this pair fight for survival. They each have a slightly different goal as the heroine wants to reach her family, whilst poor old Dirk wants nothing more than to protect the woman he considers his. Expect fireworks and tears along the way as this combustible couple go from one trial to the next.
There's so much happening in this book and the world building is a joy to read. Who would have thought that a book about zombies could be such fun? Heartily recommended for those looking for an interesting read that's chock full of surprises!!!!
