As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.
Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.
CAN THE HEAT OF DESIRE BURN BRIGHTER THAN VENGEANCE?
With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?
The Lore is composed of many different types of paranormals but the Accession is dawning which will bring war and great changes to all the various factions. Oh, there's one particular Valkyrie known as Nix the Everknowing who seems to be steering so many to find the right path and indeed she is instrumental in Thronos locating Lanthe but sanity seems to be something in very short supply when it comes to Nix! She loves to play at matchmaking and it's always such fun to see the interaction between the various species in these stories. In Dark Skye, Thronos is a Vrekener, a huge seven feet tall winged creature and he is paired with Lanthe, a petite Sorceri, but her lascivious lifestyle is one reviled by him. It's a joy to read their interactions as Thronos realises just how hedonistic Lanthe really is but his own people have got some very strange ideas about love and marriage! Suffice to say Lanthe's experience is the least of their worries as her ability to be loud could be far more problematic! The Vrekeners have some very twisted ways when it comes to taking a wife, that's for sure!
This was no instant love or lust type of story and Ms Cole kept building up the sexual tension to such a level that at times I could not believe what I was reading and it was very frustrating for these characters. I loved that Lanthe broke through Thrones’ barriers but thought it was long overdue. There's so much passion in this book but theirs is not an easy journey as they quite literally are led around (Nix does like to shall we say, direct?) but there's a very good reason for it all with secrets being discovered along the way.
Amazing descriptions of worlds and creatures that far outweighed any others in this wonderful series. If world building ever received a prize, then I suspect Ms Cole would be in line for that trophy. As for the sheer breadth of species, what this author dreams up is awe inspiring. This started out as a tale of forbidden love beset by misunderstandings but turned out to be so much more.
If you enjoy passionate stories fleshed out with action and humour then this series is a must read.
