Hearts of Stone is a heart-melting love story about a witch and a gargoyle.
Two forlorn souls, not allowed to love...
His Clan took everything from him and forced Vincent to live in the shadows. Shunned by his own kind, his only light in the dark is the witch Noir LeMar. He is her secret guardian. He wants to touch her—only once—but his Clan has cursed him.
Demons have wiped out Noir LeMar’s family. Ever since she’s fighting a lonely battle. She does not know that she has a protector who watches her day and night, while she tries to find the killers of her parents.
To save Noir’s life, Vincent has to give up his cover. Although they feel attracted to each other, both know, they never can fall in love and feel passion. The consequences would be devastating because everything he touches in his human form turns into stone.
But fate has other plans...
From the very first page, this is a sexy read and I just knew it would be fun to read. It's a completely different way of viewing Gargoyles as our lovely hero, Vincent, is half human and that kind of makes him very unique in his abilities. Sent to protect a young Witch, Noir, who spends her time hunting Demons, he has fallen so hard for her. It's a forbidden love though and made even worse by the fact that Noir does not realise that for ten years she has had an invisible protector. That all changes though when Vincent finally reveals himself whilst saving her life.
Noir is determined to track down her missing brother but has no idea just how complicated things actually are. Two precious artifacts need to be protected and the Demons are hunting for the last one. Only Angelic intervention might help but sometimes it's all about free will and the choices we make. Noir finds herself drawn so much to the sweet Vincent but nothing is going to stand in her way. Although sometimes fate and destiny have a way of changing things, and Noir and Vincent are about to learn that the choices they make will have irrevocable consequences!
I got this expecting a romance but, wow, this has so much more going for it! First off yes, Vincent and Noir have a difficult journey to make and without spoilers all I will say is Vincent is cursed and it's something heart wrenching but the author has interesting ideas of how to circumvent it! Then we have the side characters of Ash and Kara and their explosive connection which really helps shape the plot with twists. I'm loving the Angels and want to know more about them and in particular a certain Raphael.
Ms Minden has had Hearts of Stone translated into English and I did notice a couple of things that didn't quite flow very well but it was so minor it did not ruin my enjoyment of the story, so do not be put off. I hope there's more to come and soon, as I would happily read more from this author and have no hesitation I recommending this book to paranormal junkies like me.
I was very lucky and had a copy of this gifted to me by the author for an honest review.
