Scottish Highlander Colin MacAlasdair has hidden his true nature for his entire life, but the moment he sets eyes on Regina, he knows he has to have her. In his hundreds of years, he's never met a woman who could understand him so thoroughly... or touch him so deeply. Bound by their mutual loneliness, drawn by the fire awakening inside of them, Colin and Regina must work together to defeat a vengeful spirit - and discover whether their growing love is powerful enough to defy convention.
The story begins with a case of mistaken identity as Regina goes to her brother's bedroom one night to try to talk some sense into him but what she doesn't realise is that he has temporarily exchanged rooms with Colin who is staying in their home at Whitehall. Not a lot perturbs the plucky Regina though and she sees the funny side but what she hadn't expected was to discover Colin's biggest secret! Regina has the ability to read people's inner thought through touch and when Colin briefly touches her she learns he's a dragon! Now that's not something you discover everyday but Regina is completely unperturbed by the knowledge. Although she has kept her own unique gift under wraps for so long, it's not so surprising that she would be accepting of Colin's amazing secret.
Colin is visiting as it's believed the house where Regina lives is haunted and it's not long before Colin and Regina join forces to discover the truth about the unnatural haunting. As they both know each other's darkest secrets right from the start, it's far easier for the couple to relax around each other and a relationship starts up gradually between them that surprises Colin. He's much older than Regina and had not really expected to meet someone like her; but Regina is like a breath of fresh air to the jaded Colin and it's a wonderful thing! This confident Miss is capable of running rings around the dragon shifter and she may be a touch precocious at times but Regina’s heart is most definitely in the right place! Unfortunately the rumours of a dark entity haunting the house are all too true and as the couple soon discover there's danger walking the halls at Whitehall!
I loved the cover and was intrigued by this book but for some strange reason I failed to really connect with the characters, which is a shame. I'm not sure if it was the dialogue or that I just wanted more of the shifter side of the story as I love the idea of dragons. Perhaps I was just in the wrong frame of mind to truly enjoy it but it just didn't take me completely away from reality unfortunately. I'm sure many will enjoy this story as it encompasses such a wealth of ideas and I would certainly read more from the author but for me, it wasn't the fast paced sexy journey that I hoped for having seen the cover.
