Jackson Taylor has had the worst kind of day. He's screwed out of a promotion, his girlfriend dumps him, and just as he-s about to get flattened by a city bus he-s sucked into a time portal into the future. In this perfect world, they have only one use for men--as sperm donors. One look at Ari's silver-blond hair and velvety black eyes and he loses his heart.

In the very distant future, a plague will wipe out men and females will rule the world but in order to perpetuate the species the women need, shall we say a certain male genetic material. Now at first they can use any that's already been collected but as time goes by stocks will need to be replenished so a way of gathering more is essential. Ariana works for the Ministry of Reproduction and has finally been offered a promotion. She has never quite fit in with her peers and frankly comes across as a little lonely, but her life is about to change dramatically. She had always believed the material used was something artificially created but Ariana quickly discovers there's a conspiracy in her female society and this almost Utopian world is anything but!
In the year 2006, Jackson is having a really bad day. His girlfriend has just dumped him and claimed she wouldn't marry him if he was the last man on earth! He's not sure what he wants anymore and whilst crossing the road his distraction places him in the wrong place and it's most definitely the wrong time! Snatched at the moment of what would be his "critical termination", Jackson finds himself held prisoner in a future populated only by women and he can't believe what they want him for! The only upside is the woman Ariana, who is charged with gathering his genetic material as her compassion and natural curiosity cries out. Ariana may not have expected to ever meet a man but now that she has, she is no longer sure everything she has been taught is right. Her job as collector is about to get very interesting indeed as Jackson shows her just what a man is capable of!
First I must say this is quite a short read but there's a wealth of social commentary in it. The fact that males are considered to be naturally more aggressive is explored very subtlety and would the world be a better place without the effects of testosterone. An all female society would naturally mean women pairing up for companionship and love, but could that ever be preferable? These futuristic females view men as little more than animals and yet, are they not the barbaric ones themselves? Such a dichotomy of ideas and Ms Anderson did a first rate job of making this reader pause for thought and in such a short book that is indeed unexpected.
Now don't think this is dry or boring because believe me Ms Anderson writes seriously hot romances and this is no exception. It's such a unique plot and the hero is a noble sort who is very appealing, whilst the heroine is a very sympathetic character and eminently likable. Whilst I personally do prefer a longer book and adore more alpha type males, I did enjoy reading this and would recommend to those who enjoy sci-fi with a sexy twist.
