Out Of The Shadows
At six-foot-three and two-hundred-fifty pounds, Fane is a natural born guardian. A flawless mix of muscled perfection and steely precision, he has devoted years of his life to protecting a beautiful necromancer. But after she found love in the arms of another, Fane has been a warrior adrift. He swears allegiance only to the Sentinels. And no woman will ever rule his heart again. . .
Into The Fire
Not only a powerful psychic, Serra is that rare telepath who can connect to minds through objects. When the daughter of a high-blood businessman is kidnapped, Serra agrees to help. But when she stumbles onto a conspiracy involving secrets sects and ancient relics, her life is in mortal danger--and Fane is her only hope. Is the warrior willing to risk his body, his soul, and his heart, for Serra? Or will one last betrayal destroy them both?
Fane is at a crossroads. He has spent the last few years as protector to a powerful necromancer but now she has found love and no longer needs Fane at her side. Fane is determined to return to Tibet to help train up and coming Sentinels but that means leaving everyone at Valhalla behind, even the maddeningly tempting Serra. He has watched her for so long but his duty always has to come first and it's a price he understands.
Serra is so tired of Fane refusing to admit there is something between them and now he is leaving and nothing she says or does has any effect. When a mysterious package appears at her door, Serra is curious but opening it is the worst decision she has ever made! Serra is a strong psychic but her gifts don't prevent her from being drugged and forced to track down a missing child but she is not going to be alone because Fane is hot on her trail. No one hurts Serra, not whilst there is breath still in Fane's body!
I much preferred Blood Assassin to the first book, although to be fair the world building has had time to gel a little in my imagination. This pair stood out in the previous book as they danced around each other and it was wonderful to find out the lengths Fane would go to to protect the woman he loves. Yes, stubborn alpha male that he is, he really does love Serra but it's not an easy romance. Serra may be psychic but she has very little idea just how intense Fane's feelings toward her are and although the passion smolders between them, it takes a little while for all their barriers to come completely down.
This is much more than just a romance though and it's a story that just pulled me in. I love the magical abilities these new characters possess and the villain in this book is no exception. Bas is a lot more than he seems and wouldn't it be wonderful if Ms Ivy could turn him around? He does despicable things and because of him Sierra's life is on the line. Yet as a reader, at times, I didn't hate him as much as I should which is all down to the author giving such depths to her characters I believe. I absolutely delight in the life breathed into these characters and it's great they are not flat and boring.
Great plot and this series is going from strength to strength. My only reservation is that I think you really do need to read the previous book to get the most out of this storyline. I'm already hoping Wolfe will be gracing the pages soon and thoroughly recommend this series. It's something completely different and a great way to escape reality.
Highly Recommend (please read the first book, Born In Blood, first)
