Nexi Jones has lost her family, she’s been stripped of her guardian duties, and she’s still learning the ins and outs of white magic. At least she has Kyden, the smoldering hot elite guardian who’s been there for her every step of the way. But just as Nexi completes her training, tragedy strikes the Otherworld when a fellow guardian is murdered by a group of rogue vampires. Ready or not, she and Kyden trek into the Earthworld to hunt down a killer—and Nexi alone will be put to the ultimate test.
Although Kyden knows that Nexi must fight her own battles, his guardian instincts are raging as he struggles to keep her close. The ruthlessness of these vampires is like nothing he’s ever seen. And at their helm is the Black Witch Astoria, a demon with one burning desire: to shed Nexi’s blood in the name of vengeance. What troubles Kyden even more, though, is the warlock who covets Nexi’s heart. Let the devil do his worst . . . all Kyden can do is love and protect Nexi until his last breath.
Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.
The journey Nexi and Kyden take began in the previous book and the focus is mainly on Nexi and her mixed heritage. She is now part of the Guardians and as a witch who was raised by humans still has a lot to learn. The trouble is, Kyden is just so darned protective and refuses to see just what Nexi is really capable of. When fellow Guardians start getting slaughtered by rogue vampires, it's time to get real but realising Kyden's ex might be involved leads Nexi and Kyden into a right royal pickle! Add in a powerful Black Witch, who keeps turning up and then of course, a mysterious Warlock and life's about to get very interesting indeed. Oh, and don't forget Nexi has a new cat! Yes, life as a Guardian is far from dull!
If you enjoy steamy stories about Immortals, then this series might just be for you. There's quite a large list of supporting characters but Ms Kennedy does a fine job of explaining how they all fit in. Obviously as part of a series, the world building continues and I particularly enjoyed learning more about the Vampire courts and the politics within. There is also a huge reveal about the Underworld that will surely be continued in the next book.
I enjoy the chase when I read romance and kind of missed that here. The relationship between Kyden and Nexi began in the last book and they do have chemistry but for me this book lacked a little something. It's well written, has great pace and an interesting plot, plus of course, the Underworld tease. I guess if you enjoy reading about Witches, magic and all manner of mayhem then Witches Be Burned will be a book to capture your attention. I loved the cover, chuckled at the cat and was surprised by the twists ,so I am intrigued to find out what just might happen next.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
