Michelle Garrison is a writer living in New York but for some reason she's lost her muse. Her editor has the crazy idea that if she spends time on a "Dude Ranch" working the land her current western work in progress will benefit. Michelle doesn't really want to leave the city but reluctantly agrees to give it a go.
When Michelle arrives, the weather has definitely taken a turn for the worse. Her car leaves the road during a storm which results in Michelle hitting her head and losing her memory. When she's discovered, a case of mistaken identity sees her getting "married" to Tag Martin, in a bid to keep his ranch. Michelle believes she's the heroine in her novel, a real life cowgirl and now it looks like she's married a genuine cowboy! What starts out as a confusing relationship soon turns into a passionate one. As Michelle starts to get her memory back, the one thing she doesn't want to lose is Tag!
I love this author's work, although, I will admit that it's usually her Wolf tales that I read. This is a far cry from those books but it still has the high standard of writing her readers have come to expect. Ms Douglas never disappoints and her words and dialogue always flow beautifully.
This light-hearted western has just about every romantic cliche you can imagine in it! From amnesiac brides to foals being born, from sexy cowboys to crotchety ranch hands; this book has it all. Oh and did I mention a ranch that needs saving? It's a romantic comedy in many ways as the number of misunderstandings just keep piling up! Yes, it could be described as being chock full of stereotypes but somehow Ms Douglas has managed to carry it off. A gentle sensuous romance that is perhaps not as raunchy as some of her books but it's very entertaining and easy to read.
I'm so pleased I read this and if you are looking for an undemanding book to wile away a few hours, then this should fit the bill. Written with humour and full of characters that are likable, you even get the eternal triangle, or do you? I'd suggest reading this book and finding out just how wild a cowboy can really be.
