Women practically fall at the feet of hulking, handsome Hawk Luna, and Hawk relishes the idea of conquering and destroying the fiery redhead who’s caused so much trouble for his kind. The last thing he expects is to develop real feelings for her, but their liaison awakens a hunger in him that he cannot deny. He kidnaps Jack and brings her to his Amazon jungle colony, but the two lovers are soon embroiled in deadly colony politics and threatened by a looming global species war.
As the danger around them grows closer, Jack and Hawk’s forbidden passion may build a bridge between two ancient enemies—or cost them both their lives.
Hawk is one of the Ikati, a race of shifters unlike any others you can imagine. They have lived amongst us for eons but there's a war brewing and one of their Alphas has taken matters into his own hands and committed atrocities against humans. Hawk is sent on a mission and that mission means he's about to get as close as possible to Jack! Jack is a journalist with the knack of swaying public opinion but her more recent stories have done the Ikati no favours. Jack makes a terrible mistake and thinks the very sexy Hawk has been sent by a friend. One night of passion may be all Jack had hoped for but her life is about to get much more complicated!
I really enjoyed Darkness Bound and from the outset it's a story that just grabs the reader’s attention and just keeps going. Hawk is such an alpha male and the initial scenes with him are very hot. Don't misunderstand though as yes it's a sexy story but it's not just about getting down and dirty. This book has a lot of twists and turns with corruption coming to light. The world of the Ikati is a dangerous one and for far too long this race has remained in the dark ages. Change is coming though and if they are to survive, new attitudes will need to be formed. This incredible race is splintering from within as power hungry individuals fight to take control. It's going to be a bumpy ride!
The two main characters are at complete odds with each other which really helps to ratchet up the tension. Hawk likes to be in charge but with the ever feisty Jack around he doesn't get an easy ride. In fact, it's quite funny as the story progresses and the tables become well and truly turned! Hawk is so much more than just a hunter and he's about to have to choose whether or not to make a stand. As for Jack, well she doesn't just have baggage, no she's dragging a whole container load! That woman has suffered and yet she still stands tall, but her choices may not always be the safest. I loved her sense of honour but I think what I enjoyed the most was the way Jack constantly challenged Hawk. I do love to see a guy squirm!
There's lots going on in this steamy book and it's opening up for much more to come. The words just flow so naturally and the dialogue feels believable. Another great book from Ms Geissinger and I'd happily recommend all this series.
