Saying Nate Grimm has a dark past is an understatement. Fortunately, no one's bothered to look too closely at the Fairytale Management Authority's lead detective and part-time Reaper. And that's the way Nate wants to keep it. For after centuries of torment and loneliness, he's finally found happiness with the hot and hard-charging love of his life, Tess "Red" Little.
Of course, his love for Tess is the reason there's a posse of Reaper judges after him, led by a sadistic bastard acquainted with Nate from once upon a time. Now, Tess will pay the price for Nate's transgressions unless Nate severs his ties to the transplanted Tales--and Tess--forever. His enemy has the advantage in speed, malice and brutality. But the Reapers have underestimated the depth of Nate's love and devotion. And the fury of his wrath. .
Nate has finally got the girl of his dreams but they are not quite out of the woods yet! Nate knows he could be punished for previously taking a soul that wasn't scheduled to be collected and is ready to accept whatever is dished out as long as he can stay with Tess. What he hadn't counted on though was an old enemy being in charge of the guys who will judge him! An enemy who isn't wholly sane and more to the point will do anything to hurt Nate. When Tess gets in the firing line Nate realises he truly will do absolutely anything to save her and including sacrificing himself!
Okay, the story is short and is actually the second book in this series but I hadn't read the previous book and still really enjoyed it. It's easy to follow and I'm sure I should have started with Red but everything happening in this story made sense. Yes, I hadn't read how the couple met previously but the writing is so good and flows so well I caught on pretty quickly. I never felt confused or lost and that's a clear indication of Ms Serine skill and talent .
Grimm Consequences is told from the hero's perspective and readers will either like his voice or not. I personally loved his take on things and found it opened up the story a lot more to know what he thought. He's a passionate guy who really will do anything for the woman he loves. As for that woman, well Tess is certainly no pushover and I liked the fact she was considered to be quite kick ass whilst at the same time clearly a loyal and determined woman.
I really have to read the other books in this series and am very impressed. Great world building and I loved the characters. I thought their development was truly inspired! I've read a few books that play around with traditional fairy tales but none of such high standard. It's a fabulous idea and well executed. The twists on the stories are such fun and the names, Al Addin? Trish Muffet? Hilarious! Plus the cover is divine! Ms Serine you have a new fan and I can't wait to read more. Definitely recommended for fans of paranormal romance
