Marty Mathews had always known about the secret, forbidden pleasures that the women she had grown up with enjoyed. Women whose husbands or lovers were members of the exclusive “Club,” where they took a selected “third” into their beds. And there is one man—a dangerous, forbidden man—who is part of this world and who has haunted Marty’s dreams for years. But she had been the FBI agent assigned to shadow him, making him completely off limits. . .That is until Khalid is cleared and Marty is released from her assignment. Now, all bets are off. . .
The beautiful, fierce Marty Mathews is the one woman Khalid hungers for like no other and is the one woman he dare not let himself have. His past dogs his every step and danger lurks around every corner. If he wants to keep her safe, he must stay away from her. But the power of their desire is something they cannot deny—and once Marty is his, Khalid will do whatever it takes to keep her in his bed and in his arms.
Somewhere near Washington DC is a club unlike any you have ever imagined. It's full of men who are rich and powerful and who all have one thing in common, they share a woman! Oh no, it's not the usual ménage, it’s a way of life that binds two men and one woman together in every aspect of their lives and although might not be for all, for these committed souls it is everything!
Marty has grown up knowing her mother loved two men and indeed was made blissfully happy by them. Her father is a powerful senator but her godfather and indeed her "second" father is top dog with the FBI. The idea of loving one man whilst taking what they term a "third" into her bed does not shock her but there's only one man she craves. Since Marty first set eyes on Khalid at the age of fifteen, she's wanted no other and he's always been out of reach. Time is now on Marty’s side and she's determined to take action! Khalid knows he burns for the sensual Marty but he has reasons not to get involved emotionally. His past has scarred him and hurt those he loves. He's determined no harm shall come to Marty but events force him to make a choice and his choice is Marty!
Okay now, this isn't the first in the series but I had no trouble whatsoever understanding what was going on but there are peripheral characters that might have been present in previous books so I'm wondering if I've missed out. What I do believe though is Guilty Pleasures works very well as a standalone and Khalid's past was extremely interesting to read about. It's not a storyline I've seen played out before and it really added colour to this book. An Arab hero with a terrorist background may not sound like the basis for a romance but Ms Leigh does a very good job of making it believable.
The central characters yearn so much to be together and it's a very sexy read but for some reason I didn't really get sucked into their relationship. Lots of sex but for me something was missing. What I did like was the passionate and possessive Khalid but the ending seemed a little rushed and I really wanted to know what happened to other characters. I just wanted more and it felt incomplete so I am somewhat disappointed by this book. It's not a dreaded cliffhanger but I thought the characters deserved a little more and the ending didn't quite satisfy. I love this author just not this book!
