Wolf has all the skills to make her want him. But does she have the strength to choose him in defiance of all her friends and family? Even more importantly, is he the right man for her?
And what she should do about Granny's warnings?
Red is young and about to become a woman upon her sixteenth birthday. At that time, she will choose the male she will live with but until then she safely enjoys her childhood. The mutual fascination between Red and Wolf brings them closer together and it's a slow erotic journey Wolf leads Red on. He's determined to teach her the delights of the flesh but respects her customs and allows her time to truly know both him and her own mind. He's not the only male interested in Red though, and as Wolf is deeply distrusted by the villagers it's soon apparent danger is coming.
With this very short story, we get all the traditional characters wolf, hunters, granny but the author cleverly twists it all up to give her own unique interpretation. I'm sure some might find the age difference odd. For me, it didn't matter that much as many cultures marry off young women to older men and Red does have a choice in what she does. She's encouraged and tempted but never coerced. It's important to remember Red wants to discover and experience love and pleasure. As for the sexual heat, it's a slow build that never feels rushed even though this is a very short story.
This was an enjoyable read for me and I was unsure exactly how Ms Carson would end it. In the story I remember, the wolf came to a sticky end but I was kept guessing. It's well written although, occasionally parts of the dialogue gave me pause. Is it erotic? Well, for me, no but it does contain sexual content and I wouldn't recommend it younger readers.
I would like to read more from this author and would hope that next time it might be a full length book which would allow both the characters and world building to be fleshed out. Miss Carson has an imagination I would like to visit again sometime.
