When he discovers the sole survivor is a beautiful female werewolf/coyote shifter mix, bound as a prisoner, he knows it's his duty to hide her. Now, they are both at risk as a search ensues for the missing prisoner.
Will Tom be able to protect this beautiful stranger while tracking down the wolves responsible for terrorizing the local livestock?
Although this is part of a series and mentions characters and events from previous books, I didn't find it necessary to have read those first. Silence of the Wolf is easily understood and works very well as a stand alone story, so have no fears on that score.
Tom Silver is brother to his pack's alpha and as such, it's his duty to protect their grey wolf territory and those in it. Something is not right though, strange wolf sightings are happening and valuable livestock is being targeted. It's possible it's wild wolves but everything points to rogue werewolves moving into the area. He has enough on his plate without being told to babysit a female visitor, but when he meets her something about her just calls to him.
Elizabeth is no ordinary werewolf. She's a mix of red wolf and coyote and has spent her life being ostracised. She has traveled to Silver town to meet up with someone who can help her gather evidence about her parents suspicious deaths. She hadn't expected to be made to feel so welcome! Elizabeth has never met shifters as friendly as those of the Silver pack and Tom, in particular, looks to be a tasty treat! Danger is on the slopes though and Elizabeth is in it's path. The Silver territory is beautiful but can be deadly. Can she trust Tom or will he let her down? Elizabeth is used to being on her own but her heart aches to feel wanted. Is it possible for a grey wolf to love a hybrid or is Elizabeth's world about to come crashing down?
Silence of the Wolf is definitely in a class of it's own. A fabulous adventure full of twists and turns and I was surprised just how engrossed in it I was! Time just passed by so quickly as I read this book! As the story progresses, the relationship does too, but it took a surprising turn when the heroine left town (no spoilers). It's a relationship that builds up in passion. It's clear from their first meeting the couple is very attracted but not everything is plain sailing particularly when it comes to mates and bonding!
I did enjoy this story and it's full of interesting side characters to add to the proceedings. As usual Ms Spears writing is of an excellent standard. As it's about werewolves, I would have liked to see more about their inner wolves but maybe the hybrid issue seemed more important to the author. I have to be honest and state that it made me think about prejudice and how we deal with others who are different. I applaud the author for her unique approach to this touchy subject.
Fabulous world building and at times it could have been a contemporary romantic suspense as the plot was very well thought out. So, even if you are not usually a paranormal fan, I feel this book would be a pleasure to read. I will definitely keep looking out for Ms Spear's books and happily recommend Silence of the Wolf.
The Kindle and Nook versions are both priced at $6.15. The paperback at Amazon is $7.19 and at Barnes & Noble is $7.99.
