Kendall Miller, an attorney and the ex-girlfriend of another MC president, is in deep problems. When her little sister is taken by her ex, she needs to supply information to a man who is frantic for information on the highest ranking members of Johnnie's club. When she suddenly shows up at the clubhouse and arouses the suspicions of a very handsome blond biker, she finds herself being taken as his prisoner.
Evil is all around them. To save herself and her sister, Kendall has to rely on the man she betrayed. To save his club, Johnnie has to trust Kendall's story. Before it's too late. Because lives will be lost and hearts will be broken.
WARNING: This isn’t an easy or light read. Please be advised. The way to Johnnie’s and Kendall’s resolution involves death, violence, destruction, a sexual assault scene and suicide.
Misunderstood allows Johnnie to step up into the limelight. He's the club's Vice President and whilst his cousin is away, is left in charge of the MC. All he wants is to just keep things running smooth, no fuss and definitely no mess! Unfortunately his life is about to take a turn for the worse as the woman he slept with at his president's bachelor party shows up and she's not alone! As if that wasn't enough of a jolt to his system, someone who was thought dead appears to be very much alive and kicking!
Kendall is so screwed! Her ex has kidnapped her baby sister and is using Kendall to get close to the Dwellers. She's in a no win situation and terrified for both herself and her sister. The thing she feels for Johnnie is confusing as hell but one thing is for sure she can't get enough of the sexy biker. Forced into a situation with no way out, all Kendall can do is try to survive, but the only way to do that is to come clean and tell Johnnie the truth.
I found this story riveting even though at times I really didn't like these characters. Johnnie's family is dysfunctional with a capital D! Johnnie may be a good lover but he's also absolutely psycho! That man just struggles to get his head straight and I didn't really understand his infatuation with one of the series' characters. As for Kendall, well she's so full of issues it's amazing she can get up in the mornings! She's unloved by her mother, bulimic, and as if that wasn't enough, she's got a complex about being too tall. The girl is hard work! Ms Kelly expects us to believe Kendall is holding down a job as a lawyer whilst heavily involved with a biker. It all sounds preposterous and yet, I couldn't put it down!
Misunderstood is definitely not a romantic tale. One way to describe it would be to say it's dirty and gritty. Lots of sex but I didn't find it at all erotic, although I'm sure many would love to experience a Johnnie kiss! I wanted to shake the heroine as she just grated, but there are interesting supporting characters which clearly deserve to have their own stories told. This couple go through so much to achieve their happy ever after and Ms Kelly clearly enjoys putting her characters through the wringer, but it just didn't strike me as realistic. This is fiction though, so anything goes. I'd certainly read something else by this author but hope next time her characters are more appealing to me.
Misunderstood is an e-book and is $3.99 at B & N and Amazon
