Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara.
But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zach, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zach is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?
When the story begins it's clear there is more than just a little chemistry between Zack and Jillian. They have already had a one night stand but for whatever reason are just kind of tip toeing around each other and neither one seems keen to mention the rather large elephant in the proverbial room! That all changes though when Zack begins to realise he is not the only man interested in the stubborn Jillian and things come to ahead when a snowstorm leaves them stranded together. This couple both have inner demons to fight though and Jillian just doesn't want another screwed up relationship. Add in the fact Zack has a son and it's a very precarious path this couple treads. On paper this very different couple shouldn't work but between the sheets, well that's a whole new story and it's one told very well by this new to me author.
So I'm really surprised by just how much I liked this book. It's a wee bit predictable if honest but you know what? I just didn't care! This charming protective man stole my heart and although I'm not a huge fan of dirty talk, Zack came across as a guy who truly revels in all that's feminine about Jillian. Be prepared for extra spicy loving as this cowboy shows his lady just how much he wants her. Jillian is no push over though and at times did read as a little juvenile as I'm not particularly fond of girl posses and she does seem to lean on her girlfriends. Having said that, her scenes with Seth, Zack's son melted my heart and I loved that as I read I felt I knew these characters.
Well written, sexy, and chock full of humour and on that note maybe we should avoid Montana when Mother Nature has her period! Sheer delight and a fabulous book.
