Syan is a Kironian, an off-limits alien race. He’s gorgeous, rugged and all male. Even sedated and forced to wear an electronic silence collar, he resembles a coppery skinned refugee from Mount Olympus. Worse Gemmina’s unaware Kironian saliva is loaded with pheromones that can turn even the most indifferent woman into a willing mate. A single kiss or bite is sabotage.
When the mission turns lethal, she realizes she’s not only been tricked into bringing the wrong man to justice, but the harsh jungle below is a calculated trap.
Although I'm a relatively new reader of hers I was very excited when I saw Forsaken Realms, the first of her new series, that takes the action up into space. Featuring one hell of a kick ass heroine who is more than capable of giving the bad guys the run around and a strong but sensitive hero, this story flowed very well. The author added in a truly vile villain or should that be villains?, bringing the reader a sci-fi romance that has thrills and twists to keep the pages turning.
Our heroine, Gemmina, has augmentations that make her a little unique and the author makes very good use of Gemmina's “special abilities". It's a starting point for a very sexy relationship and trust me, it's a relationship that just keeps building as Gemmina learns more about Syan, the alien she has been sent to retrieve.
Nothing is ever quite as straightforward as it seems though and our intrepid heroine realises quite quickly that she has been lied to. Gemmina and Syan find themselves trapped on an alien planet with a jungle full of all manner of beasties, allows the author to let her imagination have free reign. Expect danger along with quite futuristic ideas, from terra firming to DNA manipulation, as Ms Leon takes her characters and indeed her readers on a fabulous journey of discovery.
If I had any compliant it would be the length as I hadn't realised it was a novella and I'd have liked to see the couple have more adventures. It's a good story, but I felt the ending was ever so slightly rushed but the chemistry between the hero and heroine beautifully compensated. I'm hoping for more in this style but sincerely wish for a slightly longer story next time.
One thing I can honestly say is I was entertained right from the very first page.
