Getting saved from disaster by a handsome stranger—Harper Allen has no problem with that. But when he leaves without a word or a clue to his real identity, the newbie reporter writes it off as the best one-night-stand she’ll never have again. Until a year later, when Harper comes face to face with the man assigned to hide her from a senator’s killer…
Galen Kelly hasn’t forgotten a single sensual minute of his night with Harper... or that she betrayed him. But with the FBI also on their trail, he’s got to pretend he’s never met her or risk both their lives. But as danger closes in, Galen may not be able to protect himself from taking the biggest risk of all…
What I liked: Ms Baxter's writing drew me right in from the very beginning. The initial meeting of Harper and Galen is steamy and I could almost feel the attraction jumping off the page. Then, things go a bit haywire for the couple. Of course, it's all his fault, as it should be. Really, guys just automatically assume the worse things!
Their follow up meeting goes more awry. I was definitely in Harper's corner. But the plot thickens when Harper needs to be protected as she witnessed a crime. Re-enter U.S. Marshall Galen Kelly. A little contrived but it worked in this story. From that point on the story is more of a revelation and Ms Baxter's writing just kept me going.
The story, the world building and the character development is top notch but I expected that as I've read Ms Baxter's other books written under the Amanda Bonilla moniker. The background information about the U.S. Marshalls was very interesting to me. I enjoy all the characters in the Marshall Service, especially Landon.(Can't wait for his story)
One Night More was a quick read for me and yes, I did figure out the bad guy but trying to catch him was part of the story. Ms Baxter drew it out just long enough before I lost interest.
What I didn't like: This is just me and has nothing to do with any author's work. I love my romantic suspense with a bit more angst and more suspense. But then they would call it suspense romantic, right? Just my personal choice.
Extremely well written and developed new series. Looking forward to the next one!!
(I was provided an ARC for a fair and honest review)
