Simone Kerse had just become a lottery millionaire but never lived long enough to enjoy her riches. Charlie was supposed to keep Simone's troublesome ex-boyfriend at bay and accompany her on a trip to track down the father Simone had never really known---a relatively low-risk job.
But Simone's father has secrets in his past that are about to come back and haunt him, and the arrival of his long-lost daughter may be the catalyst that blows his whole world apart. But the closer Charlie gets to the truth, the bigger threat she becomes. Only this time she's in no fit state to protect anyone, least of all herself….
What I liked: More and more, I love Charlie. She's afraid she likes violence too much but doesn't realize she does have a moral compass. She just can't see it and feel it but the readers do. She's damaged but doesn't give in when thoughts and feelings become too much. Great heroine. I enjoy the relationship between Charlie and Sean. They trust each other and it shows through. I really liked the beginning of Second Shot. It starts off with a bang and then Ms Sharp goes back to beginning of the story. Very well done to grip the reader right from the start.
What I didn't like: Looking back, I really can't think of anything that threw the book off track. It flowed and kept my interest
This series is at the top of my "don't miss" list. I enjoy Ms Sharp's writing immensely. You could read this as a stand alone novel but jump in at the beginning for the full effect.
Recommended for thriller/mystery readers. It's a good buy on Kindle at $2.99 You can also get a great deal on a used copy on Amazon.
