Fact--Hart is back from the not-quite-dead.
Fact--His ultimate goal is my death.
Fact--He'll use anything--and anyone--to help him reach that goal.
The only way to save myself--my family--the entire Covenant--is to find the answer to one simple question.
Who is the traitor?
What I liked: It was somewhat up in the air whether Ms Pruitt would continue with this series. Her fans asked and she delivered!! Now, all her fans are waiting impatiently and we'll probably be begging for another installment very soon.
The evolution of Ms Pruitt's writing from this series to her more current Winged Series is unbelievable. She has grown leaps and bounds as a writer. Having been with this series from the very beginning, it's apparent she's one very talented writer.
As this is a novella, it's very hard not to say too much. Jude is still Jude with bigger and more complex problems, as well as being very pregnant. All around Jude people connected to her are being murdered in the most grisly of ways. It's very apparent the Covenant has a traitor but the question is which of Jude's friends is intent on helping a mad-vampire ensure her death.
This is a very quick read. Ms Pruitt took great pains to keep Jude and Theo on the same footing as in previous novels. There is a lot of angst between the two. In other words, they fight constantly. Added to that, the pressure of the murders, her pregnancy and Jude is a bit testy.
I can only imagine the problems Ms Pruitt faced in not changing her writing style in this novella. She indicated she had outgrown this series as a writer and based on her latest work, I agree. However, Jude's story was not finished. Ms Pruitt took the bull by the horns and added Shades of Loss to the Jude Magdalyn series. Now, of course, we, as fans, are going to want the ending to Jude's journey. Hint. Hint.
What I didn't like: The ending. I'm not sure what Ms Pruitt has in store for this series but I really hated the ending.
Shades of Loss is reasonably priced at $2.99 (ebook only)
