Danger has never looked quite so delicious…
Jax Mercury knows all about fighting and death. Scorpius doesn't just kill, it can change the infected, leaving behind sometimes enhanced humans but more often than not what survives is known as a Ripper. Rippers lose their empathy and sanity as they become little more than deadly killers. Yes, the Scorpius bacteria is now the enemy Jax faces but when the woman known as Blue Heart arrives in his territory, Jax begins to learn just how challenging leadership really is!
I loved Mercury Striking, but I do think that's probably partly due to having all the background information from Scorpius Rising. As this book begins, Lynne isn't just looking for asylum, she is searching for the place that continued her research before everything fell apart. Lynne is hated, feared, and believed to be the cause of the deadly plague that has infected ninety nine percent of the US. She needs a strong ally in this hostile landscape. What she hadn't expected was to find a protector who will do whatever it takes to save those he considers to be "his". Jax may lead the Vanguard group but his ways may not suit all. Tough, yes, but can this leader really hold it together in this post-apocalyptic world they now live in. Lynne doesn't just need him to scavenge or fight, she needs him to kill but just who is the target?
Wow I am in awe! Two strong personalities drive this story and yet there's a certain humour here too. If you enjoy alpha males then badass Jax will leave you salivating but there's also an incredible vulnerability about him. Lynne is pragmatic, courageous, and a total spitfire at times. Yes, she is a survivor but she challenges Jax at every turn giving readers a passionate story that could melt your kindle! There's drama, action, and even painful betrayal within these pages but Ms Zanetti drops real emotion in too, so beware, it might just take you unawares. You won't close Mercury Striking feeling you have all the answers, but you will get a sense of hope and rather intriguingly there's developments that are so tantalizing I just can't wait to read what happens next
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
