When members of a United Nations joint security force are taken hostage by radical terrorists in Indonesia, Captain Ezekiel Fortunes is called to lead the rescue team. Part of a classified government experiment, Zeke is a supersoldier with enhanced abilities. He can see better and run faster than the enemy, disappear when necessary and hunt along any terrain. There are those in the world willing to do anything for power like that...
A formidable spy genetically engineered to hide in plain sight, Bellisia rarely meets a man who doesn’t want to control her or kill her. But Zeke is different. His gaze, his touch—they awaken feelings inside her that she never thought possible. He’s the kind of man she could settle down with—if she can keep him alive...
What I liked: I was almost ready to give up on the Ghostwalker series but decided to try one more book. Fantastic read! I feel like I did when I read the first couple of books in this series. I don’t feel like I’m reading page after page of sex.
I’ve really loved the books set in the swamp of Louisiana except for the main characters. Pretty harsh, huh? The secondary characters kept me reading but the last book, Spider Game, just totally turned me off. I couldn’t deal with what I felt was unnecessary dominance and cruelty by the hero. I get it, it was his character and he is autistic, but I didn’t feel the connection between them. Now, Power Game made me fall in love not only with the heroine and hero but several of the secondary characters. Of course, Nonnie is always a favorite and I loved how she manipulated Zeke so he could meet Bellisia.
The beginning of the story set the tone for the whole book. I could not put it down! Bellisia is such an intriguing character and I loved her interactions with Nonnie and all the other characters. She’s strong but caring. You would think her life would have made her cold but she’s good at watching and learning. She trusts but only up to a point. She has to learn the individual but is now willing to take a chance on others.
Yes, there is sex but it doesn’t overpower the characters or the plot. It was just right! The attraction between Zeke and Bellisia was written very well. It felt more like an accelerated courtship and not an immediate jump into the bed.
And while Ms Feehan wrote an extraordinary storyline, she saved some HUGE surprises for the end. I was completely taken aback at what happened to a character or two. Now I want to know more!!
What I didn’t like: And here it comes…. the price of the Kindle and the NOOK e-books is $13.99. I know, it released in hardcover. Unless you collect the series, I recommend borrowing it from the library or a friend. I feel like a broken record on this issue but I see no reason in most cases for the e-books to be so expensive. In a lot of cases, the e-book remains more expensive than the paperback version when it releases. ((Shakes head))
So, I’m back in the “game” and awaiting the next book anxiously.
