Colleen Playfair has never been to Scotland, but when she discovers she must spend a year and a day overseas learning to manage her newly inherited estate, she's ready for the challenge. She even has some ideas for improvements-if she can get past the sexy werewolf who seems convinced he's the one in charge.
But he's digging in his claws...
Grant MacQuarrie and his clan have been managing Farraige Castle for three centuries. The last thing he wants is a meddling American heiress trying to change the way things have always been done. He's more than willing to fight the she-wolf every step of the way, using every tool at his disposal. And if that means taking the lass to bed, well...all the better.
Locked in a battle of wills, caught in an attraction they can't escape, Colleen and Grant must find a way to work together...or face losing it all.
Colleen has inherited a castle in Scotland but there's a catch, she must stay there for a year and a day! She has never visited her family's estate and is obviously excited at the idea but so much has happened in recent times that Colleen feels she will need allies. Luckily her old friend has settled in Scotland recently but what she knows about the welcome Colleen can expect is worrying to say the least!
Grant is head of his pack and his family has made their home at Farraige castle for generations. He is not about to let some interfering American chit start interfering with the way things are run and has every intention of making sure the lass leaves things as they are. Oh, he's not a bad man, far from it but he's seen too much damage done in the past by those who only think of their own selfish desires and not of what is best for the clan as a whole. What he hadn't expected was to discover the new owner is not only attractive but seems genuinely interested in maintaining the estate. He is sorely tempted to entice her into his bed but would she think that just his way of controlling her? Grant is not the only man around to take an interest in Colleen and things are about to get complicated!
Men in kilts! Yes, I know it sounds a bit juvenile of me but the opening scenes when Colleen first arrives at the castle are hilarious! Big, brawny, sweaty guys sword fighting whilst proving Scotsmen really don't wear anything under their kilts had me in stitches! This book is written in a very amusing way with lots of scenes that will bring a smile to the face of those reading it.
This is a romance and the relationship between the two leads builds up very well, although I wasn't quite convinced by their declarations of love but as shifters I do understand things work a little differently in their world. Ms Speer excels at this sort of lighthearted romance and I'm sure her fans will be very pleased with this offering. It's a well written book and yes, there is sex in it but it's not long drawn out scenes that have the reader wishing for more plot and action. No, the backbone of this story is the relationship between the couple and their antics and interaction won me over! Sword fights, pirates and unusual flags! This was a genuinely amusing story.
It's a standalone book but it's a fun series to read and I really am so pleased I read Heart of a Highland Wolf. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys seeing a woman run rings around a big butch guy and of course for romance fans!
