Leine eliminates terrorists for a living. After a routine assassination almost gets her killed, she chalks it up to a fluke. Her lover and fellow assassin, Carlos, has another idea altogether. He thinks their boss is setting them up for a fall.
When Carlos goes missing and a bombing thwarts another mission, Leine suspects the stakes are far higher than she could ever imagine, and wonders if the man in charge might have it in for her after all.

What I liked: I've seen and thought about checking this series out but just kept putting it off. It sounded like something I would like but most of you would say the same thing, "too many books, not enough time." However, I was browsing NetGalley and came across A Killing Truth and since it was short and a prequel, I though, why not?
It's a good introduction to the Leine Basso series. It was enough to hold my attention but didn't bog me down with an info dump, thus why I like prequels. It was well paced and nicely written but not over the top if you think about exactly what Leine is. I mean, how many think of an assassin as a regular everyday person and that was almost what surprised me the most about A Killing Truth.
I did figure some of the plot points out but some of the twists and turns took me by surprise. I did not expect the ending at all was a bit frustrated by it. Yeah, you read it and see what you think.
What I didn't like: One of the things I liked about A Killing Truth is also one of the things that bugged me the most. Leine's life as an assassin almost seemed too common. Go kill someone, go home and make dinner for the family. Yeah, it was different but the character made up for everyday acceptance of being an assassin.
Recommended (especially if you're thinking about starting this series).
