New York Times bestselling author, Caris Roane, presents AMETHYST FLAME, the second book in the Flame Series. In this story, vampire Officer Vaughn of the Crescent Border Patrol gets called to a triple homicide in a deadly place called the Graveyard. When he finds that Emma Delacey has been summoned to the same crime scene, warning bells sound. He’s tried to suppress his desire for the beautiful witch knowing nothing good can come of a relationship in the alter world of Five Bridges. But her auburn hair and glittering green eyes call to him as no woman has since he became an alter vampire. As an evil wizard hounds them both, Vaughn must come to terms with his deepest fears especially when Emma proves to be the key to saving his sister from a madman’s torture.
AMETHYST FLAME is a standalone story with no cliffhangers. It’s a passionate, hot, paranormal romance, featuring a vampire and a witch set in the urban world of Five Bridges. Caris Roane is the author of eighty-two published works, thirty-two of which are paranormal romances featuring tortured warrior vampires in desperate need of worthy women.
Vaughn is a Border Patrol Officer but recently all he can think about is the tempting witch Emma. Both are rare in that they seek to protect the weak and fight the corruption and debauchery rife in their lands but they seem to have become entangled in something with far reaching consequences. It's well known that a dark Wizard is heavily involved in sex trafficking but when Emma and Vaughn discover three murdered teenage girls the race is on to stop these atrocities once and for all. Can they take down the slave ring when so many seem involved? Just how can two so different people work together but to succeed they will have to discover just what being a team really means!
I really enjoyed this short story and thought it really started to further open up this world that Ms Roane has created. Vaughn is such a driven, passionate guy with a past that haunts him. Emma knows what it's like to lose someone she loves but still fights to hang on to her humanity in spite of everything. As different species, they should be enemies but the chemistry and passion between them just cannot be denied.
A huge plus for me was the ending as it brought hope to what is a pretty nasty world. Yes, I'm really starting to get a feel for this series and will happily read more.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
