He has no family, no job, no bank account;he knows where she lives and her favorite flower. An aura of mystery cloaks him, even as Rowan grasps for facts, even as she fears an answer that could destroy her happiness. Gabriel can guide her through a wonderland of new sensations. But only if Rowan trusts him enough to follow. . .
He's the kind of guy Rowan can imagine as a Viking who just seems out of place and yet for some strange reason he seems interested In her. Rowan can't quite wrap her head around it but Gabriel slowly starts to court her, but something is just, well frankly off! He doesn't seem to work and yet clearly has money and keeps disappearing and when Rowan meets his friends they seem just as otherworldly as he does! Rowan begins a bizarre relationship with Gabriel but nothing is quite what it seems. She keeps getting a weird sense of déjà vu and feels as if she knows him. Rowan dreams of Gabriel and seems to lose time but can't quite get him out if her mind. There's a strange sense of sadness he gives off and it's tormenting Rowan but can she trust what she feels? More to the point though, can she trust Gabriel?
I was hooked by this book almost from the first page as I thought the heroine Rowan had a wonderful "voice ". She feels like a really snarky urban fantasy heroine written with lots of humour and I love that she listens to her inner bitch! There's nothing more fun to read about for me than a compelling heroine who is snarky and brave. Rowan's character is all that and more as she's also an incredibly loyal friend. She clearly deserves happiness but what starts out as a straightforward romance really left me floundering as the story unfolded!
Obviously there's a big clue in the title but at the halfway point I really didn't have a clue as to how the story would progress. There's no big protagonist as such, so not really an action packed storyline and yet I found myself intrigued as to what would happen next. I did enjoy reading A Vampire's Kiss and I will track down the next as it's a bit of a cliffhanger. I'm hoping for much more plot and action in the next installment. Gabriel's a sexy guy, Rowan is an amusing heroine and her best friend Laycee is a hoot! I'm really hoping the paranormal element will be explored more next time but as I enjoyed the first half so much and screamed at the ending I have to say I recommend this book!
