Complicated does not begin to describe Arcadia Bell's life right now: unnatural magical power, another brush with death, and a murderous mother who's not only overbearing but determined to take permanent possession of Cady's body. Forced to delve deep into the mystery surrounding her own birth, Cady must uncover which evil spell her parents cast during her conception…and how to reverse it. Fast. As she and her lover Lon embark on a dangerous journey through her magical past, Lon's teenage son Jupe sneaks off for his own investigation. Each family secret they uncover is darker than the last, and Cady, who has worn many identities—Moonchild, mage, fugitive—is about to add one more to the list.
In this book Cady will truly learn what it means to be the Moonchild and the cost is truly astronomical! At the end of the last book Cady was left quite literally fighting for her life. Her lover, Lon, has kept vigil at her bedside as she's fought the long road to recovery. Now she's woken up from a coma, it's imperative they discover the ritual her parents used at her conception in order to prevent Cady's mother possessing her body! They need to retrace her steps but first Lon has to remove some of Cady's memories. If her mother connects with her in dreams the consequences are truly dire!
I loved these books and Banishing The Dark is no exception and yet I did read this with a heavy heart. Cady is such a strong, brave heroine and the life she's fought for has never been an easy one. I wasn't sure about Lon initially, but he's proven himself time and time again to really be the guy Cady needs. It's a beautiful thing to read. Theirs is such a passionate connection and although this is not erotica the intimate scenes between Cady and Lon are so sexy.
Ms Bennett does not titillate but boy does she deliver! I think what makes these books so good is the way the author brings her characters to life. In this book, we get chapters told from the point if view of Jupe and that boy is hero material in the making. He's brave and takes chances, but refuses to just sit around and let those he cares about suffer. It was simply a joy to read from his point of view and his actions were essential to the plot as this family pulled together.
Well, I don't wish to ruin things with too many spoilers but I will say, it's a sweet epilogue the author gives us. Cady and Lon may win a battle but there are always wars to win. This family they have made deserves happiness. Banishing The Dark was a fabulous book and it's an amazing series. I'm sorry it's over but I look forward to whatever else Ms Bennett dreams up and heartily recommend reading her books!
Banishing the Dark is available at B & N in paperback and Nook book for $7.99. At Amazon, it's $7.59 for the Kindle edition and $7.19 for the paperback.
