To bring down a sleazy abduction ring, Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson has set herself up as bait. But recruiting Dashiel Riske as her unofficial partner is a whole other kind of danger. Dash is 6'4" of laid-back masculine charm, a man who loves life—and women—to the limit. Until Margo is threatened, and he reveals a dark side that may just match her own.
Beneath Margo's tough facade is a slow-burning sexiness that drives Dash crazy. The only way to finish this case is to work together side by side…skin to skin. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he'll have to prove he's all the man she needs—in all the ways that matter.
Margo is a no nonsense police Lieutenant working hard in a traditional man's world. She's good at her job and totally committed. When women start getting abducted and cruelly abused in porn movies, she's not about to sit back and do nothing. Problem is, she needs backup and Dash, the annoyingly gorgeous brother of one of her detectives, seems only too happy to help. He's a civilian so Margo really doesn't want to involve him but sometimes what Margo wants and what Margo needs are not the same thing!
Dash is following Margo home one night when she's viciously attacked. Left without the ability to look after herself, the fiercely independent Margo agrees to let Dash come home with her until it's certain she's not suffering any lasting damage. Dash has long wanted the opportunity to get closer to Margo and he's not about to let it slip through his fingers. Margo may be vulnerable but it's obvious she does have feelings for Dash. What starts out as an innocent deed pretty soon escalates to a lesson in passion. Margo is a well, waiting to be tapped, and Dash feels he's just the man for that job but danger is still stalking the feisty Lieutenant and it looks like Dash and Margo's fledgling relationship is truly in peril.
I first discovered Ms Foster's work several years ago and she's one of the most consistent authors I have ever found. Her books are filled with believable characters, strong story lines, and hot encounters! This book did not disappoint and the hard as nails heroine, Margo, was just such a revelation. It's hard to always be in charge and I loved that the hero Dash could see her innermost needs. He didn't just see them, he attended to them and it's a delicious slow burn that drives the passion within this story. Dash is an alpha male but he's also sensitive and Margo clearly needed to just let go of control sometimes.
This isn't just about romance though, as there is a very real storyline running through this book. Prostituition and sex trafficking is a genuine issue facing law enforcement. Although this is a work of romantic fiction, I applaud the author for bringing what's almost a taboo subject into the light. The villains here may be a little one dimensional but this is meant to be an escapist book for readers to while away a few hours and not a serious tome.
So this book is probably one of my favourites from Ms Foster and I really enjoyed spending time with the hot Dash and strong Margo. A great fast moving plot from the start just drags the reader in. There's action as well as passion and well written characters to care about. Supporting characters are interesting as well and I suspect one in particular (Cannon) may get his own book. It was a really fun book to read and I'm so looking forward to more from Ms Foster.
