Edmund MacGregor will do anything to save Scotland from English rule-even kidnap Lady Amelia Bell for ransom. As the daughter of a duke and the chancellor's betrothed, she's the perfect pawn in this game. But from the moment he first lays eyes on his spirited captive, he can't resist stealing a kiss . . .
AN ADVENTUROUS LADY
Lady Amelia's duty is to marry well, but that hasn't stopped her from fantasizing about true love. So when a sexy Scot appears in her home, she's beguiled. When he kidnaps her, she's furious. Yet as Edmund introduces her to a world of passion beyond her wildest dreams, can she leave her family behind for this handsome Highlander? And will Edmund risk the only true home he's ever known to capture the heart of this lovely lass?
Edmund is a man on a mission and nothing and no one will stand in his way. Its a simple idea really, kidnap the woman who is betrothed to the Chancellor and prevent the treaty binding Scotland to England being signed. On paper it works but in reality and in the attractive and somewhat clumsy flesh of Amelia, maybe not quite as straightforward as Edmund had hoped! Oh yes he manages to steal her away but in the process he losses his heart. These two people both know duty comes first and sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
I cannot fault the immense detail Ms Quinn incorporates into her work. At times the dialogue was so rich I truly felt as if I was living in a time long past and I loved it. It's a rare gift to be able to bring history to life and this author clearly has refined her craft and this story benefits greatly from it. Full of history and adventure this gentle and sweet romance is populated with characters to raise a smile. Brave sexy hero with a warm sensitive side, wayward but loyal heroine and supporting characters helped flesh out the storyline. If you are an animal lover then be prepared to smile and I'm sure there's much more to come from Edmund's friends.
This should tick all my boxes but unfortunately I just felt the romance lacked a little something. I liked the central couple but I didn't love them as much as I'd hoped. For me Amelia was just too nice and I really wanted a bit more fire and passion but the supporting characters of Sarah, Malcolm and Lucan seem set to deliver that hopefully when their stories are told.
Did I enjoy this story? Yes and apparently Edmund's fathers story appeared in Conquered By A Highlander, so well worth hunting that book down. I greatly enjoyed reading my first book from Ms Quinn and recommend this book to lovers of historical romance.
