Miriam Cait seeks love, or rather, her friend seeks it for her. Her friend’s latest date suggestion is refused on account of his dark eyes. There’s something not quite right with them, and Miriam soon finds out why when he comes knocking on her door, and knocking her out.
Miriam wakes up from the confrontation with more than just a headache. Shackles cover her ankles and wrists, and she’s on her way to being auctioned off to a bunch of self-proclaimed dragon lords. It all seems too fantastic to be real, but as the evidence starts mounting against sanity Miriam realizes she may be in deeper trouble than she thought.
I liked the ideas here and particularly found Miriam to be amusing. She's stubborn but not stupid and quickly realises that only by using all her resources can things change. Events happen quickly and the romance with Xander is somewhat peculiar. The dragon Lord that chooses Miriam gets more than he bargained for and certainly their relationship leaps forward physically. So, when they are attacked I struggled to quite believe what happened next but it's fantasy so let's be honest anything goes.
So, the romance here initially didn't grab me but I'm hoping the author will build upon it as Miriam’s adventures continue. Unfortunately, this did seem jumpy at times with words and phrases used that detracted a little but possibly with a different editor it would have been more polished. I'm not sure if I will continue this series and will check reviews to discover if the editing improves.
