After a rogue wizard steals dangerous potions from the local covens, Kate worries their suspect is building a dirty magic bomb. Her team must find the anarchist rogue before the covens catch him, and make sure they defuse the bomb before the Blue Moon deadline. Failure is never an option, but success will require Kate to come clean about her secrets.
What I didn't like: It took me a bit to get into Cursed Moon. I wasn't connected in the beginning. Not bored exactly, but not connecting and not really intrigued. I wasn't put off exactly by the sex/rape/vulgarity of the story because, that's the basis of the story. It was crass but I've read crass before so that didn't bother me, however, it was just a bit jarring. Maybe that was the point. I still think there's alot going on in this world which we don't know. I'm hoping Ms Wells keeps the development going.
What I liked: The writing is great, the humor a bit off color but good for me. I still have A LOT of questions and that's a good thing. After I got through the beginning, I was totally engaged. I'm still in love with the majority of the characters, hate the ones I'm supposed to hate and wondering about others. That's a good combination for an author to keep me reading their series.
I really felt for Kate and I wanted to smack not only her brother, Danny, but her best friend, Pen. Kate is trying to balance way too many things and keep her head on straight. She manages, but not with much help from those you would expect. Baba is still my favorite of the supporting cast.
I enjoyed this as a police procedural and wonder how everything is going to play out with just one book to go. There's so much to be resolved that I'm really expecting an action packed novel in Deadly Spells (due out March 3rd 2015).
While I enjoyed Dirty Magic more than Cursed Moon, I can see the progression of the storyline and the characters. Like I said, I have questions and can't wait to see how the characters handle the war to come.
Recommend (only if you read Dirty Magic first)!!
