No matter how aloof and unfazed Roni acts, Marcus can tell she wants him. When a brutal attack by a jackal pack forces them to work together, it’s the perfect opportunity for Marcus to chip away at her defenses—until he falls into his own trap, completely unprepared for the intensity of their connection. Roni is the only one who’s ever seen past his shifter charm and discovered the man hiding beneath it. And for Marcus, claiming Roni once will mean needing her forever.
In Dark Instincts we see Roni, the sister of Nick, the Mercury’s Pack Alpha, trying her very best not to get too close to Marcus, Enforcer for Phoenix Pack but it's a losing battle I fear! Right from their first meeting there's been an incredible awareness between them with chemistry off the charts but Marcus is a player and if I'm honest, a complete manwhore! So definitely not what the reserved and almost antisocial Roni wants in her life, and besides he isn't her mate so she's so not going there.
From the first page Roni is thrown in at the deep end as this deadly female fights to protect her Pack and those she cares about. A foiled kidnapping attempt sees the Mercury and Phoenix Packs joining forces against a truly evil Jackal Pack who will stop at nothing to get what they want. Marcus sees his opportunity to get closer to Roni and slowly but surely gets her defences to come tumbling down. Not everyone is happy about the Enforcer sniffing around but Roni is an Alpha female and more than capable of making her own decisions.
Two Wolves both with secrets that even now control the way they conduct their lives, two equals in fact who somehow find a balance of power. Expect lots of hot sex and I feel I should do my sci-fi Robot impression here " Warning Warning" there's a back door scene here that won't appeal to all, but you know what? In this story for this couple, it works and besides you can always flip a few pages if you want.
Werewolf fans will really enjoy Dark Instincts with its mixture of action and romance. Ms Wright has a way with words that is truly entertaining and I love her snarky and strong females. Hey, her playful Alpha guys aren't bad either! A much more satisfying tale than the previous book if honest and let's hope the other members of the Phoenix Pack get their stories told soon.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
