Anything for you Mistress…
Thrace S’ver is an unwilling slave. Drugged and bound, he is taken to the Flesh Bazaar and put up for sale to the highest bidder. But this is not the first time Thrace has been on the auction block—he has a past full of horrors he doesn’t intend to repeat. Desperate to be free, he swears he’ll kill whoever buys him.
Lonnara Trin is the Captain of a merchant ship from the all female planet of Zetta Prime where sexual relations with a male are considered unnatural and wrong. She has no use for males personally, but she needs a big, muscular slave or her business will suffer—Thrace fits the bill.
Soon Mistress and slave are embroiled in a desperate conflict which draws them intimately together. To her surprise, Trin actually begins to have feelings for her slave. And though Thrace swore to be free, he finds himself devoted to his new Mistress. When their differences threaten to tear them apart, Trin tries to grant Thrace his freedom. But she doesn’t realize that his heart has already been…Enslaved.
Enslaved, the fourteenth book, picks up where the previous story, Cursed, left off with a Havoc warrior (distant cousin to the Kindred) being offered up for auction as a slave. Thrace, the very unwilling slave, has spent years putting his unpleasant past behind him and is determined to kill whoever buys him and reclaim his freedom. What he hadn't expected was to be bought by Trin, an honourable young woman, who simply wants him as back up. When Trin finds herself in danger, Thrace rescues her but their ordeals are only just beginning and pretty soon being a slave to Trin is not the worst thing that could happen to Thrace because losing her is far, far worse!
This is a series I find totally irresistible with its take charge heroes who are often damaged and heroines who are perhaps not always kickass, but nevertheless tie these big strong guys up in knots. This story had the sexy scenes that this author excels at, although I'm not such a huge fan of the whole voyeur vibe that these characters seem to have to go through. Ms Anderson gives us a heroine with strong moral fiber and it's an unusual twist as she struggles with coming to terms with the possibilities of a male in her life. Thrace has an awful lot of baggage to deal with but his developing feelings for Trin make it very hard for him to despise his mistress and indeed, he quickly comes to realise she has in many respects been brain washed by the society she has grown up in. I think this is where a much darker tone takes over the story and there will be some readers perhaps uncomfortable with certain events. No spoilers here but it's quite difficult to read without feeling emotional, but happily the Kindred always support each other.
So the world building as usual is amazing and the author’s imagination just keeps stretching until it clearly knows no bounds. Whether its items of clothing, physical descriptions, or unusual food stuffs, there's always something new to picture in the readers' mind’s eye. New worlds, amazing adventures, and yes, very erotic encounters. Add in an old enemy of the Kindred, and this series just does not run out of steam. I thoroughly enjoy these books and cannot wait to find out what will happen next.
I was gifted a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
