Las Vegas Mafia boss, Nico Toscani, is used to getting what he wants, whether it is having the City of Sin under his rule or a beautiful woman in his bed. But when he meets his match in the gorgeous, headstrong Mia Cordano, the daughter of a rival crime lord, all bets are off. . .
Sexy computer hacker, Mia, struggles to break free of her ruthless father’s Mafia ties…but she can’t resist the powerful and seductive Nico, who will stop at nothing to possess her. With their families locked in a brutal war for control of the city, Mia and Nico enter into a forbidden game. Will they surrender to the passion that burns between them—and risk tearing apart their families? Or will Nico be forced to betray the only woman who sets his blood on fire?
Nico is determined to avenge his father’s murder and blames Mia's father for it but Mia is just as much a victim of her father’s cruelty. She has fought her way free and no longer considers herself to be a 'princess' but her father has other ideas. Mia might not be the child he wanted but as a daughter she can buy him alliances. Problem is meantime Nico has clashed with the rebellious Mia and he quite liked it! They may be on opposite sides but what's growing between them is worth risking everything for, or is it?
I loved the beginning as the two main characters just tango so well together. It's written in a way that captures the readers' wicked imagination but then I was briefly pulled away by supporting characters who I'm guessing will feature in subsequent books. However, when the spotlight is on Nico or Mia, it's definitely a gripping read.
Mia is her own person and not some cardboard cutout and it's clear her father underestimates her to the point where it's obvious he'd rather she had been his son instead of Dante. The twisted relationships in their family made for very uncomfortable reading as Ms Castille doesn't shy away from violence. Nico has his own family problems to deal with though as his Uncle Santo has ousted him from his rightful position. Hey, that's alright though as Nico has a plan but Mia without a doubt sends him completely out of orbit.
The word chemistry is often used but wow, this couple set each other and the page on fire! Now add in the fact someone is taking out the mob bosses and it's also highly likely there's a leak in the organisation. Here though, the author weaves a twisting plot that adds elements upon elements until as it all overlaps we are left with a very well-crafted story that just happens to entertain as well.
Yes, it's a violent world but there are real feelings in play and if you fancy reading about vendettas and romance, then this book has it all.
