A vampire rebel ...
Vicq is one of the Dresdan--the oldest, most ruthless species of vampire. Scarred by the deaths of everyone he once cared about, he holds himself aloof, impenetrable walls around his heart.
His mortal enemy …
Elaina hunts vampires for District 5, an underground group with its own shadowy agenda. A seasoned veteran and elite tracker, she has no time for relationships.
An instant addiction …
Brought together by betrayal, Vicq and Elaina find a passion that breaks all the rules. Now they’re both being hunted--and their forbidden love could be the only thing keeping them alive long enough to learn the truth.
*Prelude is the first book of the Dresdan Coven Trilogy and should be read first.
Elaina is a tracker for District 5 and actually she's pretty good at what she does but prejudice keeps getting in her way. Believing all Vampires are evil, Elaina gets a shock when her work puts Vicq in her crosshairs. Vicq is no longer aligned with Dresden, nor is he a killer because Vicq, is a coven leader trying to save his race. Soon Elaina has questions but the answers are not going to be what she expects.
It's always difficult setting up a new world that's both believable and different. I unfortunately didn't feel pulled into this story although I was quite interested in Elaina. I'd have liked more of her background but it's really a simple introduction to the rest of the series. Vicq whilst heroic and romantic just felt too stylized to me. A hunk that spouts poetic words in Spanish but the romance was so quick, truthfully it left me cold.
What is intriguing though is District 5 and the secrets they hide and I'm pretty much expecting evil scientists trying to perfect the ultimate soldier or something.
Warning: Prelude has a cliffhanger ending but the next book in the series, Donor is available at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
