Special Agents Lacey Sherlock and Dillon Savich from Coulter’s bestselling FBI series don’t hesitate to help Drummond find the cunning international thief known as the Fox. Nonstop action and high stakes intensify as the chase gets deadly. The Fox will stop at nothing to deliver the Koh-i-Noor to the man who believes in its deadly prophecy. Nicholas Drummond, along with his partner, FBI Special Agent Mike Caine, lay it on the line to retrieve the diamond for Queen and country.
When I first started reading, I thought it was just a carbon copy of The FBI Series with different leads. And it is, to a point. I'm hoping for more in the next novel.
What I liked: I really like the background work done on the history of the Koh-i-Noor diamond. I'm a history buff, especially English history, so I enjoyed that aspect. I also found myself very intrigued by "The Fox" and how clever she was in the storyline. I'm hoping FBI Agent "Mike" Caine is going to be the second lead in the series because her character was one of my favorites. I'm a bit on the fence with the lead, Chief Inspector Nicholas Drummond. The last 2/3 of the novel was much more to my liking than the first 1/3.
What I didn't like: The first third of The Final Cut seemed to drag. This might be because it's a new series but I'm not sure. I didn't find myself connecting with the lead, Nicholas Drummond. He seemed to run hot and cold; extremely capable one moment and strangely inept the next.
I'm somewhat on the fence with this first in a series but that's often the case with me when I start a new series by an author(s) I'm already reading. While this is not a card board cut out of the FBI Series by Catherine Coulter, it is very close. It's a bit grittier, which I did like. Nicholas is rough around the edges and isn't afraid to bend rules.
I will try the next in the series to see how it progresses. The cost is something to think about. The Kindle version is $9.99 and the hardcover is $15.82. You might want to borrow it from a friend or check it out of the library before you start a new collection.
