Twelve diabolical tales.
New York Times bestselling author and highly acclaimed storyteller Jeffery Deaver-the undisputed "grand master of the plot twist" (Booklist)-returns with a dazzling new collection of short stories. In these twelve electrifying tales (including six written just for this anthology) Deaver proves once again his genius for the unexpected-in his world, appearances are always deceiving.
A devoted housekeeper embarks on a quest to find the truth behind her employer's murder. A washed-up Hollywood actor gets one last, high-stakes chance to revive his career. A man makes an impulsive visit to his hometown, and learns more about his past than he bargained for. Two Olympic track hopefuls receive terrorist threats. And Deaver's beloved series characters Lincoln Rhyme, Kathryn Dance, and John Pellam return in stories now in print for the first time.
What I liked: I'm not going to go into detail with each story as they're short and I'd just be regurgitating the synopsis. With the exception of one story (because I'd read it before), I had no idea who the bad guys were. I love that about Mr. Deaver. You think, I got this and maybe you do to a certain point and then he spins it 3 days to Sunday and you've not a clue. Or, you think the story is over, it's not!! He added more deviousness to mess with your mind.
My absolute favorite story in Trouble in Mind is the very last one in the book, Forever. It put me in knots!! That's all I can say except, I could not put it down. It was one in the morning (way, way past my bedtime) and I felt compelled to finish!!
What I didn't like: That each and every story wasn't a full length novel.
The pricing for Trouble in Mind is: Amazon Kindle edition is $10.99, hardcover is $19.49 and the paperback is $18.33 (WOW). At Barnes & Noble the Nook version is $12.99 and the hardcover is $19.87
